Sutton Come Unstuck Against Spring View

On Saturday the 1st XI travelled over the lump to take on Wigan outfit Spring View. Some heavy over night rain had left parts of the square saturated, but despite this, play began on time with the visitors batting first. Sutton made a steady start and reached 28/1 in the first hour of play, however the next 30 minutes would completely eradicate that start. Sutton lost 7 wickets for just 10 runs and an early finish was in sight. That was however, until Ben Scott (32) and Lewis Bolton (33) put on 60 runs for the 9th wicket and gave Sutton something to bowl at. The innings coming to a close shortly after for 108.

The Wiganers reply faltered and at 44/4 Sutton fancied their chances of a surprise victory. A couple more wickets did fall however some crucial dropped catches and a well compiled half century from the Spring View opener seen the visitors over the line by 4 wickets. Liam Dodd bagged himself a brace.

The 2nd XI hosted the reverse fixtures and fielded an extremely depleted side. The hosts won the toss and decided to bat and found themselves in a similar situation to the 1st XI. There was to be no lower order cameo as we were skittled for 43. Ste Glover 2 and Andy Dodd 1 did get some early wickets, but the small target was never going to be a threat for the visitors who eased home by 7 wickets.

The Sunday XI faired much better as they came away 6 wicket winners against local rivals St Helens Town. Town batted first and racked up 164 in their 40 overs. Kannan Selvaratnam (5/30) and Ram Vinjamuri (3/30) the stand outs with the ball.  In reply, Chat Ranawaka (86) and Vinjamuri (45*) put on 113 for the 4th wicket to see the home side over the winning line with 10 overs to spare.
